Joe Jonas confirms he auditioned for the lead role in the 2012 blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man, ultimately losing to Andrew Garfield.

Joe Jonas recently revealed he almost played Peter Parker in 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man.

The singer-songwriter and actor discussed auditioning for the iconic role on a recent episode of Variety’s “Just for Variety” podcast. “I remember years ago I was in for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and that was the year Andrew Garfield got him,” he said. . “Obviously it was the right one. But I remember it was a big thing at the time, coming back for encores and the director was a music video director. So I was like, ‘I’ve got one here . But you know what ? I love the process of auditioning, showing up and having to prove yourself.”

As Jonas notes, British-American actor Andrew Garfield eventually landed the role of Spider-Man. Garfield recalled being cast as a wall-crawling superhero in a recent interview, saying it was “a lot to take on” at just 26. He added that he “felt a danger” to himself when he signed up for The Amazing Spider-Man, due to the level of fame that comes with such a high-profile part. Despite this, Garfield said he felt ready to take on the burden of portraying Spider-Man, and already intended to return to the stage once his tenure as a crawler was over.

Andrew Garfield’s Method Approach to Spider-Man

Garfield’s love for the stage reflects his classical acting training, however, the star also uses more modern acting techniques. Notably, VFX supervisor Jerome Chen recently confirmed that Garfield brought an extreme method approach to the Gwen Stacy death scene during the amazing spider man 2. “I remember when they were shooting that scene, Andrew and [Gwen Stacy actor] Emma [Stone] we deliberately didn’t see each other for a week,” Chen said. “Andrew said, ‘I don’t want to see you! When you walk into that scene, you have to pretend you’re dead to me.'”

Garfield’s stint as Spider-Man was seemingly over after Marvel Studios and Sony rebooted the franchise, with Tom Holland replacing him as Peter Parker. That turned out not to be the case, however, as Garfield appeared opposite Holland and their predecessor Tobey Maguire in 2021. Spider-Man: No Coming Home. Garfield’s participation in No coming home has reignited fan hopes that Sony will give the green light to the amazing spider man 3although the star herself continues to play down the possibility of that happening.

Spider-Man is one of the greatest crime fighters out there, but unlike other superheroes such as Batman and Moon Knight, he’s not known for his undercover detective work. However, when his friend Daredevil asks for his help in catching a serial killer stalking New York nightclubs, he has no choice but to dress up and hit the dance floor. The married hero is forced to dance with dozens of strange women in clubs across the city in order to hunt the killer, and he struggles to navigate the singles scene long enough to complete his mission. Although Peter eventually succeeds in discovering his target, he is clearly more comfortable with the web than playing detective.

In daredevil (vol 1.) #305-306 (DG Chichester and Scott McDaniel), the blind vigilante is on the trail of the Surgeon General, a femme fatale who lures dance partners into her home, only to leave certain body parts short when they wake up. Swapping her miniskirt and high heels for hospital gowns, she drugs her victims and cuts up their organs to resell them on the black market. Realizing that most of the victims were partygoers, Daredevil enlists his then-married friend Peter to go undercover as bait. Spider-Man wonders why Hornhead can’t do it himself since he’s supposed to be a ladies’ man. He’s also not thrilled to inform his wife, Mary Jane, that he has to flirt with dozens of young socialites to catch a serial killer.

Spider-Man’s Undercover Mission

Peter Parker Undercover Fake Mustache

Peter dons a fake cheese mustache to prevent anyone from recognizing him. It’s reminiscent of the Batman’s Matches Malone disguise that the Caped Crusader frequently uses to infiltrate Gotham’s underworld. While Batman is shrewd and cool while undercover, Peter is socially awkward and willfully annoys anyone he perceives as a threat to his sacred marriage vows. When he finally stumbles across the Surgeon General, it’s pure luck more than anything and the Wall-Crawler seems almost relieved to drop the charade.

The Surgeon General introduces herself as Angeline Kutter, but thanks to Peter’s spider-sense, he is immediately aware of her evil intent. Despite Parker’s shortcomings as a detective, one of the advantages he has over the Dark Knight is his keen sixth sense, which always alerts him to nearby danger. Kutter leads him to an isolated rooftop where she attempts to attack him, but Daredevil intervenes at the last moment. In the shadows, Peter can finally get rid of his ridiculous disguise and disguise himself as Spider-Man in order to help his horned friend.

How Spider-Man and Daredevil stopped the Surgeon General

Daredevil Spidey Captured

The Surgeon General flees, pushing his way through the nightclub crowd, leaving behind a trail of wounded and dying to distract the vigilantes. This only fuels the heroes’ determination to bring her down. When they eventually track her to a base of operations near the World Trade Center, they discover that she is just a member of a larger organization that specializes in illegal medical smuggling. Despite being attacked by gas, scalpels, and hypodermic needles, Spider-Man and Daredevil team up to take down Kutter and his associates.

The final showdown with the Surgeon General was arguably the easiest part of this jaunt for Spider-Man, as he could just sneak up and punch his foe. For the introverted, goofy hero, clubbing and chatting with dozens of flirtatious singles is far more terrifying than any serial killer, goblin, or symbiote. In the decades since these issues were published, Peter has yet to don the fake mustache, but with his wedding magically undone thanks to Mephisto, maybe next time around will be a little less awkward.

It’s impossible not to associate Spider-Man with New York. The vast skyline is ideal for the web’s hero, and it’s served as his headquarters for as long as he’s been fighting crime. However, Peter Parker attempted to start a new life in a distant town on the other side of the country for a brief period. If this era is somewhat forgotten, it is revisited today in the Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt miniseries (by JM DeMatteis, Eder Messias, Belardino Brabo, Neeraj Menon, Cris Peter and Joe Caramagna), which revisits the interesting and unique time Peter spent in Portland after retiring and losing his powers.

The gripping story of how Peter ended up in Portland and lost his powers was told in Spider-Man: The Ultimate Adventure (by Fabian Nicieza and Darick Robertson). This four-issue miniseries was originally envisioned as a coda for Peter’s adventures as Spider-Man. This took place in the midst of the infamous “Clone Saga”, in which Ben Reilly temporarily took over the role of Spider-Man from Peter who believed himself to be a clone at the time. His wife Mary Jane was also pregnant, so the future couple retreated from the chaos that had defined their lives with the newfound belief that raising a child was the greatest responsibility of all.

Spider-Man inadvertently created the monster known as Tendril

tendril-spider-man-the-final-adventure

Peter specifically chose to work at GARID, the company that sponsored the experiment that initially gave him his powers as a teenager, to better understand how his blood chemistry might affect his unborn child. However, there, he discovers that the company is experimenting on terminally ill convicts, including River Verys, who suffers from a flesh-eating disease. The company’s synthetic skin treatment is a failure until Peter secretly mixes it with his irradiated blood. Rather than curing Verys, this turns him into Tendril, a grotesque spider-like creature that escapes GARID and roams the streets of Portland.

Peter realizes he has no choice but to come out of retirement and don the spandex again. Against Mary Jane’s wishes, he jumps into the night. In the absence of his web-shooters and web-enabled New York skyscrapers, Spider-Man is forced to use cables to move around the city. He confronts Tendril but discovers that his punches have no effect on him, and he must find a more creative way to defeat his opponent. When Tendril infects him with his flesh-eating disease, it becomes more urgent than ever that he capture Tendril and bring him back to the GARID labs. However, healing Tendril’s transformation can cost the Wall-Crawler everything.

Is Peter Parker still a hero without his powers?

Peter loses his powers

Back at GARID, the experiment to cure Verys has to be manually controlled by Peter which leaves him powerless. It’s no spoiler to say that Peter’s loss of power didn’t last long, and he soon crossed the familiar New York skyline again. In fact, Peter’s return had already been decided before this farewell arc was even printed, almost causing it to be canceled entirely. The editorial demanded that it didn’t end with the birth of Peter’s child as writer Nicieza originally intended and even asked that he not lose his powers. Having already compromised enough, Nicieza threatened to walk away unless Peter was at least allowed to become impotent by the end of the storyline.

However, Spider-Man: The Ultimate Adventure is more than a mere curiosity and succeeds despite the editorial turmoil and indecision that have hampered it. This miniseries is worth seeking out for its sharp dialogue, terrifying villain, and novelty of seeing Spidey operating in a different city, but it was never properly collected and is now hard to find. Tendril, in particular, had a fearsome look and power, and if he were resurrected today, he could serve as a more effective dark counterpart to Spider-Man than Chasm or Venom. It is also a suitable accompaniment piece for The lost hunt miniseries that takes place following Peter’s loss of his powers. Helpless and in search of greater meaning in his life, he may finally be able to answer a question he asked himself during The ultimate adventure – whether the man fills the suit or the suit fills the man.

It’s been almost a year since Spider-Man: No Coming Home is out in theaters, and as excited as we are for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we can’t help but miss the excitement generated by threequel. It was a hell of a movie, and Spiderman 4 really can’t get here soon enough.

It’s rumored to hit theaters in 2024, kicking off an all-new Spider Man trilogy set in the MCU.

The events of this latest film have given the hero a fresh start on Earth-616, but there are some huge questions we think Marvel Studios should strive to answer in this fourth film (and we’re not talking about the bigger ones). obvious as if this Venom symbiote will come into play).

From missing details about how he became Spider-Man to lingering plot threads and the fallout from Doctor Strange’s fate, you can check out these questions – and our take on how they might be answered – at clicking the “Next” button below.

8. How Memory Spell Works Really Work?

We thought Doctor Strange’s fate was pretty straightforward; the world would forget who Peter Parker is, but still remember Spider-Man (essentially rewriting reality). However, the prolonged cutting of Spider-Man: No Coming Home muddied the waters with a new post-credits scene.

In this, it was revealed that Peter is still in the photos, although his image is distorted. Is it just the way others see them or the result of some kind of weird band-aid on Earth-616? Moreover, will the hero be able to make his entourage speak by unmasking or showing them the proof that they have crossed paths before?

For example, does MJ remember having a boyfriend or are those memories completely gone? Besides, do MJ and Ned even remember why they were at the Statue of Liberty?! While we don’t anticipate Spiderman 4 being another multiversal adventure, that’s definitely something the next movie needs to address.

7. What’s Spidey’s status quo with his fellow heroes?

wireframe-captain-america-civil-war

Doctor Strange mentioned Spider-Man in passing during his recent sequel, but what will he and the rest of the MCU heroes now do crawling when they cross paths?

Secret identities aren’t really a thing in this reality, so we have to believe they don’t really trust this kid. Now, it’s not like he’s unmasked himself in front of everyone he’s fought with, but with J. Jonah Jameson convincing the world Spider-Man is a hidden threat, we can’t help but to think we’ll start to see a rift between Peter and his fellow heroes.

This matches the comics where, before becoming a New Avenger, meeting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would most often result in a fight rather than a team-up.

6. Is he going to college?

far-from-home-spider-man-tom-holland-sony-mcu

In the blink of an eye and you’ll miss it at the end of Spider-Man: No Coming Home, it was revealed that Peter planned to graduate from high school with a GED. He couldn’t exactly go back to Midtown High when no one knows who he is, but what does the teenager – who now lives in Manhattan – do next?

We have to believe that he will go to college, and like his comic book counterpart, it will likely be Empire State University.

Peter may have dreamed of going to MIT (which, coincidentally, is where Riri Williams studies), but that’s not his now, especially since the last thing he would want to do is again putting MJ and Ned in danger. It’s possible he’s just going to get a job, of course, especially since in reality, a GED student who can afford the Empire State is highly unlikely…

5. Will Peter Parker get a new love interest?

Spider-man-no-way-home-Spidey-MJ-800-x-450

Peter and MJ’s romance really blossomed in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and it continued in last year’s trio. As they fell in love, we couldn’t help but develop a soft spot for their relationship. Alas, it came to a tragic end when Michelle’s memories of her boyfriend were taken from her.

Despite what seemed like a glimpse of recognition at this cafe, Peter decides not to reveal himself to MJ and appears to distance himself from the woman he loved in an effort to protect her. With a fresh start in the Big Apple, will we see Spidey move on and meet someone new?

While we’d love for Gwen Stacy to make her MCU debut, it seems unlikely the hero would want to put another “normal” girl in danger. That would Spiderman 4 the perfect place to introduce Black Cat, but it’s hard to say if Felicia Hardy is caught up in Sony’s mostly gruesome plans for her own Marvel Universe.

4. What happened to Uncle Ben?

spider-man-ffh

We understand why Marvel Studios chose to gloss over Spider-Man’s origin story, especially since moving on from this very familiar story was key when Peter entered the MCU. However, some answers would certainly be welcome when Spiderman 4 comes our way.

While we can probably safely assume that Peter was bitten by a genetically enhanced or radioactive spider while on a field trip or at a science exhibit like his comic book counterpart, we still don’t know if Uncle Ben even exists in the MCU. There have been hints that he was a part of the teenage life, but Spidey’s real Uncle Ben moment actually came when Aunt May passed away.

It’s a unique twist on his origin that has now laid the groundwork for a more comic-accurate Spider-Man, but come on, isn’t it time to at least get some clarification on Ben’s role? in what led to Peter becoming a superhero?

3. Where are his other costumes?

wallpaper-HD-iron-spider-man-marvel-marvel-mcu-mcu-spider-man-spiderman

In this incredible final swing, we see that the MCU’s Spider-Man now has a suit more in keeping with his comic book counterpart and what Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield wore on their respective outings. Gone is all the technology, and in its place is a real homemade costume that looks…spectacular.

But what happened to his other costumes? The Iron Spider suit was not completely destroyed in Spider-Man: No Coming Home as far as we know, while we’re sure the built-in suit could be recovered, even after being beaten in this final battle.

Of course, without additional access to Stark technology, it seems likely that repairing either would have been beyond a teenager’s abilities with a sewing machine. We’d still like to know what made Peter give up this technology, and how not having it will affect his adventures.

2. Can its old status quo be restored?

Spider-Man-copy

On the one hand, Spider-Man: No Coming Home felt a lot like a goodbye for the MCU character. We have to believe this stems from the fact that no long-term deal between Disney/Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures was in place at the time, let alone the fact that Tom Holland was apparently ready to step down from the role.

Making the world forget about Peter and knowing that Spidey was still out there fighting the good fight was a satisfying enough ending, but with another trilogy reportedly on the way, can his old status quo be restored?

We don’t see Strange’s spell unraveling, but when it comes to remembering MJ, Ned, and Happy, it would be great to see the hero find a way to restore his memories. Plus, it really feels like it’s missing out on the dynamic he had with other characters like Flash Thompson and even Betty Brant.

1. Is he a street-level superhero now?

screenshot-2022-11-09-at-16-27-34

Of course we hope so.

The MCU’s take on Spider-Man has been a lot of fun, and the character sure got a makeover afterward. The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, seeing him don an Iron Man-created suit or head out into space didn’t feel very Spidey, and we’d like to think the final run through snowy New York was a sign that things are on point. to change.

The whole “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” approach in Back home felt too small, and it was about time we saw the web-slinger fight crime in the Big Apple. Hopefully this leads to a rumored team up with Daredevil which will see them face off with The Kingpin together.

If Wolverine and Captain America were humiliated as often as Peter Parker, they would lose some of their cool factor. For Spidey, it’s just the opposite. Going through hardships, failing and rising again is why people keep coming back to Spider-Man comics. They are drawn to the clumsy teenager who isn’t perfect, but tries anyway. The downside for Spidey is that it means he’s often humiliated, even when he manages to win.

Venom 3 found its director in Kelly Marcel, who previously wrote the screenplays for Tom Hardy’s first two outings as Sony’s lead character Spider Man Franchise Universe.

Director Ruben Fleischer directed the first Venom movie and officially kicked off Sony’s Spider-Man universe, a franchise made up of characters tied to the wall-crawling robot in the comics. Andy Serkis took over directing duties for the sequel, Venom: let there be carnage, but Marcel’s relationship with Hardy while writing and producing the two episodes obviously landed him the job of director for Venom 3.

Deadline reports that Marcel will take on executive duties for Venom 3 while also serving as producer and writing the screenplay. Hardy has already announced that Marcel is returning to write the Venom 3 script earlier this year, and insiders say Marcel became the obvious choice to direct the film as the two began developing the story together. Hardy and Marcel would have agreed on the franchise from the beginning, and it continued as they agreed on how to wrap up the final chapter of the Venom film series. Of course, Marcel won’t be the only producer, as Hardy also takes on the role along with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.

Venom 3 plot details are under wraps at this time, and it’s currently unknown which (if any) of the previous two films will return alongside Hardy. Since Venom: let there be carnage hitting theaters, Sony’s Spider-Man universe added Jared Leto Morbius to the franchise, with Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web and that of Aaron Taylor-Johnson Kraven the hunter currently in various stages of production. Whether Leto’s Morbius, Johnson’s Madame Web, Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter, or any other newcomer to the Spider-Man universe join Hardy’s Lethal Protector in Venom 3 is a mystery at the moment.

Of course, Sony may or may not want to see how Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter are received by audiences before making any crossovers. After Morbius flopped at the box office, there may not be much desire to see these characters meet on the big screen, especially given the Venom the films also failed to receive rave reviews, despite their box office success.

While some believe Morbius Proves Sony’s Cinematic Universe Will Fail, Others Believe That Venom movies are entertaining enough to have a strong framework for projects like Madame Web and Kraven the hunter Build on. Time will tell, but with Venom 3 set to be Hardy’s final outing in the role, Sony will have to step up its game when its most successful character (who isn’t Spider-Man) steps down.

Venom 3 is in development at Sony Pictures.

Spider-Man, the world’s favorite creepy hero, has been known for his jokes almost since his conception. However, across the Marvel Multiverse, the Spider-Men have been the butt of jokes almost as often as they have been pranksters. Sometimes the funniest thing about the characters is the clothes they wear, including plenty of clumsy and misguided attempts to alter the formula of 1962’s classic red and blue Spider-Man suit.

RELATED: 15 Superhero Costumes That Make No Sense

All superheroes and their costumes are absurd when brought into the real world. The extent to which a superhero costume is a joke depends a lot on the artists portraying it. However, some of Spider-Man’s more unusual looks were also intentional jokes, albeit usually jokes made at Wall Crawler’s expense.

10/10 The original Scarlet Spider drew on a ripped hoodie with magic marker

The 1990s were a time of excess in the American comic book industry. Variant cover editions commanded high prices in direct market specialty stores and the industry tried to capitalize on this trend by creating more variant covers. This fueled a speculative market which, in turn, fueled a temporary boom in the industry. New characters with new costumes arrived regularly.

Scarlet Spider’s costume has been regularly attacked as a joke and defended by nostalgic fans. The do-it-yourself aesthetic of the outfit is pretty fun in its own way, but it’s also cheap. It’s the kind of costume a fan could make but not something a hero should wear.

9/10 Cyborg Spider-Man Was Just Erik Larsen Playing With Readers

At the end of the main story Spider Man #20 from 1992, Spider-Man’s enemies the Sinister Six beat him badly and left him bleeding in a filthy warehouse. When he woke up, he needed cybernetic implants to get back to fighting crime. At least, that’s how it appeared.

However, this was just a joke played on the Webhead and his fans. The cybernetic arm was a decorative cast and its “new eye” was just a modified bezel. Erik Larsen, the writer/artist of the book, pulled out a bait and cover switch. Readers certainly thought Peter had been maimed, just like Spider-Man himself. In retrospect, even the title of issue #21 makes the joke clear: “Dealing Arms.”

8/10 Ricochet looks like a gymnast in a goth phase

During the 1998 “Spider-Hunt” storyline, Peter Parker dodged a bounty on Spider-Man’s head while fighting crime in new suits. In the “Identity Crisis” storyline, he adopted four new heroic personas to follow four different crime-fighting leads.

RELATED: The 5 Best Spider-Man Clones (& The 5 Worst)

One of Peter Parker’s four new suits was designed for optimal movement, as Peter used his spider-like agility to bounce off walls. Here he was called Ricochet and wore a loud blue and white leotard under a leather jacket. It wasn’t Spider-Man’s finest fashion moment, and he never wore that ridiculous costume again after the story ended.

7/10 Spider-Man’s First Outfit in Amazing Fantasy #15 Was Weird and Boring

When Spider-Man first appeared in 1962 amazing fantasy #15, his story was dramatically framed as nerdy Peter Parker gained great power and discovered great responsibility. Seeing Peter exclusively in ordinary clothes, even when he first used his powers in a professional wrestling match, helped readers relate to the character.

The comic was created via the Marvel method, with a loose plot fleshed out by the artist. Records are nearly nonexistent, so it’s hard to say who came up with the idea for Spider-Man’s professional wrestling look. It could have come from Stan Lee’s writing or Steve Ditko’s art, but that quirky “Spider-Man turtleneck and bottom” definitely made the Wall-Crawler’s beloved red and blue suit look a whole lot better in comparison.

6/10 Tobey Maguire’s Original Wrestling Outfit Was Even More Dorkier

When the first Spider Man Released in theaters in 2002, Tobey Maguire’s performance as the nebbish Peter Parker was universally hailed as compelling and comic-accurate. He responded to an ad for a wrestling match with a prize for the winner, hoping to cash in on his newfound powers, recreating his origin story from amazing fantasy #15.

The spray-painted sweatshirt, balaclava and work gloves didn’t inspire much confidence. Bruce Campbell’s ring announcer must have mocked the lean weirdo stepping into the ring to take on the hulking Bonesaw. It’s unclear where the redesigned Spider-Man outfit he donned later in the movie came from, but it was definitely an improvement.

5/10 Spider-Man 1602 looks like a teenager’s idea of Elizabethan England

Marvel Comics approached world renowned writer Neil Gaiman with an open opportunity in 2001. The resulting project, Wonder 1602, is set in late Elizabethan England and its American colonies. Released in 2003 and drawn by Andy Kubert, it features a helpless version of Spider-Man named Peter Parquagh appearing alongside other heroes born 400 years too soon.

RELATED: Spider-Man: The 8 Best Versions (& 7 Worst)

Near the end of the series, Parquagh is finally bitten by a spider, just like in the classic Spider-Man origin tale. In a 2005 sequel titled Marvel 1602: New World written by Greg Pak and drawn by Greg Tocchini, he receives spider powers and debuts as a spider in his own red and blue costume with a Shakespearian grindstone collar. It was a wild, non-heroic fashion statement at best.

4/10 Spider-Man 2211 looks like a B-movie monster costume

By the early 1990s, Marvel Comics had an entire publishing line projecting its fictional universe a century ahead. Writers and artists created new characters to inhabit the world of Marvel 2099. Towards the end of this experiment, Peter David wrote and Rick Leonardi drew a comic book one-shot titled simply Spider-Man 2099 meets Spider-Man.

At the very end of this time travel story, the Spider-Men of both eras were suddenly visited by another Spidey: Spider-Man 2211. The character implied a larger legacy for Peter’s life story. Parker but didn’t have many pages. and probably didn’t deserve much design prep. The result was wonderfully ridiculous.

3/10 Hard web spider armor barely lasted ten minutes

During Terry Kavanagh’s “My Enemy’s Enemy,” a mob war in New York is in danger of breaking out and one party has chosen an all-robot crew. Alex Saviuk has designed a new Spider-Man costume for this menace, advertised on the cover as “The All-New, All-Daring Spider-Armor”. It wasn’t meant to last more than an issue, but that made it extremely disappointing.

RELATED: Jason Todd’s 10 Best Costumes, From Robin to Red Hood

The spider armor is mostly a joke for the fans. The fact that the suit was featured on the cover of Spider-Man web #100 with special bright green foil material made it worse. Putting together a new costume that was only nine pages long was a ridiculous disappointment.

2/10 Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Nocturnal Monkey Costume Was Hilarious

Spider-Man: Far From Home is probably the funniest film featuring the famous web hero to date. It’s funny from the start, with a fake Nick Fury hijacking Peter Parker’s European class trip and forcing him to moonlight as a spy. To avoid danger to his secret identity, with Spider-Man appearing in Europe at the same time as Peter, he wore some black outfit provided by Fury.

At a climactic moment in Prague, the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Ned Leeds and Betty Brant saw him as he saved them. Ned covered for Peter by calling him a “European version of a con” named Night Monkey. Audiences loved the gag enough that Night Monkey was the focus of several internet memes.

1/10 The Bombastic Bag-Man is still a fun joke

For over 38 years, Spider-Man fans have laughed at a moment in Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz. The Amazing Spider-Man #258. Johnny Storm dispatched Peter Parker in an old Fantastic Four uniform and a paper bag. Johnny’s brilliant teammate Reed Richards had just solved the mystery of Peter’s alien symbiote costume and Peter Parker had nothing to wear at home. Of course, he ended up foiling a crime on his way home.

The resulting identity, Bag Man, was short-lived but hilarious, with reporters asking Peter if he was joining the Fantastic Four. Completing the joke, Storm even taped a “Kick Me” sign on Spidey’s back. It was literally a prank and it’s still funny almost 40 years later.
