JumpCloud Extends Cloud Directory Platform with Patch Management to Improve Device Security

JumpCloud announced the addition of Patch Management to its cloud directory platform, coming in Q1 2022.

New Offering Expands JumpCloud Directory Platform to Help IT Administrators in Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) Better Understand System Vulnerabilities, Enables Automated Patch Update Deployment, and Strengthens Overall Security their devices.

JumpCloud Patch Management gives IT admins the power to create schedules, report OS patches and releases, view patch releases on their remote fleet, manage updates and patches Mac and Windows from the JumpCloud console – easily, quickly and with the latest security. .

“We all know that users don’t update their devices with bug fixes or security patches with any regularity or discipline,” said Greg Armanini, Senior Director of Product Management, JumpCloud. “This creates huge security vulnerabilities for every organization, especially distributed ones, which is almost every organization today. JumpCloud Patch Management solves this problem quickly and easily and provides robust updates that improve security , strengthen the protection of the organization and thus provide great peace of mind. Offering this functionality as part of the directory platform further centralizes the management of user identity and devices, which that saves SMB IT administrators time and money, while eliminating the stress and potential vulnerabilities of having to work with multiple vendors.

Patch management is an essential pillar of cyber defense, but many organizations still struggle to apply patches in a remote or hybrid work environment. This is due to the lack of visibility into user devices, the frequency of new patches introduced by software vendors, and the need to leverage multiple solutions and complex workflows to manage patches across multiple operating systems ( BONE).

NTT Application Security researchers recently found that the average time to fix critical vulnerabilities was 205 days, and 60% of breached organizations reported that the breaches were due to a vulnerability for which a patch was already available, but not deployed to the organization’s systems and devices.

JumpCloud gives administrators a single cloud directory platform to secure users across heterogeneous device environments, regardless of where work takes place. The first release of JumpCloud Patch Management focuses on OS-level patches for Mac and Windows, with Linux, browser, and application patches coming soon. This version includes:

  • Patch visibility dashboard with fleet OS distribution and current OS version trains
  • Centralized view of policy configuration and recommended settings
  • macOS Automatic Updates Policy to set and apply automatic updates with end user notifications
  • Advanced Windows Updates Policy with new controls to automatically install and apply Windows updates with end user notifications

“JumpCloud has been instrumental in consolidating our cloud directory, single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), mobile device management (MDM), and more,” said Ricky Jordan, Senior IT Systems Administrator at Primitive Skate. “Patch management removes a huge IT burden and allows us to strengthen our cyber defenses with better control and understanding of system vulnerabilities. Having to juggle mixed operating system environments and taking the time to manage the continuous deployment of patches was a headache for our team. I can’t imagine trying to run a modern workplace without JumpCloud. »

Patch Management will be available a la carte for all JumpCloud users in Q1 and will be located in the Policy Management section of the JumpCloud console.

“In today’s ever-changing security threat landscape, where the battle between good and evil continues in the digital battlegrounds of tomorrow, administrators must play full-spectrum defense more than ever,” said Reilly Scull, chief technology officer at Macktez. “At our customers, JumpCloud has helped us fight back by making it easier to enforce encryption, ZeroTrust, and Conditional Access policies to help protect assets and infrastructure. But, even the best policies can be thwarted if the foundation on which they are built has a critical vulnerability, which is why having a quick and effective patching solution is so important.

“With JumpCloud’s new patch management capabilities, we will now be able to keep our customers secure, at a faster rate and with less management costs and overhead than ever before.” These new features will allow us to reclaim critical time and resources, allowing us to focus on helping our customers move their business forward, without getting bogged down in the trenches of mundane patch management. We’re excited about these new features, and hope other JumpCloud customers are too!”
