Occupied zone, Directory tab: Google is rolling out new features for Maps to make navigation easier this holiday season


Tech giant Google on Tuesday launched new features in Google Maps, including Area Busyness and Directories, in an effort to help users shop and navigate better this holiday season.

The new update features will help users navigate the Google Maps app in a more user-friendly way and travel more easily. The company said users can use Area Busyness, a new feature that combines live occupancy trends, to help them instantly spot when a neighborhood or part of the city is near or most frequented.

“To make the coming weeks stress-free, we’re launching new Google Maps tools to help you stay safe, maximize your time with loved ones, and find the perfect spot for vacation brunch,†said Google in a blog post.

Thanks to this feature, your visits have improved a lot. Open Google Maps to see places to avoid, such as the area near a vacation lounge. And if you are traveling and want to experience some of the city’s most popular areas, you can easily identify the bustling and bustling areas.

Area Busyness will begin rolling out globally on Android and iOS just in time for this holiday season.

Directory tab
To help users navigate tall buildings quickly, the tech giant has expanded the Directory tab globally on Android and iOS for all airports, malls and transit stations around the world.

When Google rolls out this feature, the user will be able to quickly see what types of stores are in a building (like toy stores or jewelry stores), airport lounges, car rentals, parking lots, etc. Not only that, but within each category the user will be able to see a list of relevant companies, in addition to useful information about their opening, rating and what floor they are on.

This feature will allow you to track the status of your order. After the user places their order with the retailer, pickup with Google Maps will allow them to track the order status, share their ETA, and notify the store of the user’s arrival, the everything from the app.

Pickup with Google Maps is now available at over 2,000 stores in over 30 states in the United States and will hopefully roll out worldwide soon.
