Tropical Storm Nicole Update: VSU Announces Closures and Continues to Monitor Situation
Dear students, teachers and staff,
As promised, we continued to closely monitor the track of Tropical Storm Nicole. The latest update from VSU’s Public Safety Department shows the storm is strengthening as it nears us with the greatest impact of heavy rain and winds forecast between 6 and 10 p.m. As a result, VSU will be closing at noon today. We will continue to monitor Nicole’s impact, but at this time we expect VSU to reopen at 8:00 am Friday (tomorrow).
What does that mean?
Classes: For teachers and students, face-to-face classes are canceled from noon until the rest of the day. Faculty members are encouraged to make up for lost class time by rescheduling classes or moving class work online.
Activities on campus: All campus activities and facility reservations are cancelled. The student union and recreation center will also close at noon.
Lodging: University residences will remain open to resident students only. We ask all residents to refrain from being off campus after 6 p.m.
To eat: All outlets will close at noon. Palms Dining will remain open to residential students until 5 p.m. Students will be allowed to bring extra food and snacks for the evening.
To the entire campus community, please stay safe and keep a watchful eye out for this approaching storm.
